Allow farmers to file offline claims to avail crop insurance: Latur Cong MLA Dhiraj Deshmukh
Congress MLA from Latur Rural Dhiraj Deshmukh Tuesday asked Latur district collector G Sreekanth to allow farmers to file offline claims to avail compensation from insurance companies for their crops damaged by rain.
In a press note issued on Monday, Deshmukh also asked the district collector to release funds for farmers to clear their fields damaged by crops.
Unseasonal rains during the last two weeks of October have damaged crops on large tracts of land in Maharashtra. Out of the 54 lakh hectares of land reported to have been damaged, 22 lakh hectares of land was damaged in Marathwada, with farmers reporting damages to standing crops of soyabean, cotton, maize etc.
Deshmukh, the recently elected MLA from the Latur Rural constituency in Latur district, had visited several affected villages in the area. After his survey, the MLA met the district collector to discuss the situation.
During his interaction with the collector, Deshmukh asked him to direct insurance companies to allow farmers to file their compensation claims offline. “In many cases, the online system does not work due to server errors,” he said. He also asked the collector to release funds for farmers to clear their lands affected by crop damage and make necessary preparation for the next rabi crop.
