Insurance fraud alleged at PACCS

Tiruvarur: The members of the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Society (PACCS) at Thappalampuliyur here have submitted a petition to the district collector alleging the chairman of the society had misappropriated Rs 12 lakh in the name of crop insurance claim. They have also demanded stringent action against the culprits.

The complaint handed over to district collector T Anand by the members of the society states that Ravi, the chairman of the PACCS at Thappalampuliyur near Alivalam, sanctioned crop insurance to PACCS society members Govindaraj, Satishkumar and Vijayarani, even though they had not raised crops on their land or opted for insurance. They did not received any money from the society either.

They came to know that their vacant land parcels were insured under the prime minister's crop insurance scheme without their knowledge. They also alleged that the misappropriation would not have taken place without the knowledge of the chairman of the society.

“Somebody might have given forged documents using our field numbers to insure crops, even though no cultivation was carried out in the last few seasons,” they alleged.

They urged the collector to order an inquiry into the issue without any delay to fix the offenders. They have also appealed the collector to do the needful to get claim passed for crop loss from their respective insurance companies as most of the eligible farmers have received the same.
