The university insures the students for one year at nominal costs and provides a cover of Rs 2 lakh in case of accidental deaths.
It also provides a reimbursement fee of remaining semesters up to Rs 1 lakh in case of death of an earning parent or guardian of a student.
From this year, an additional Rs 50,000 insurance cover has also been proposed in case of animal bites, specifically monkeys, dogs and snakes - all of which are in abundance on the campus. Recently, a monkey had bitten a girl student outside the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) on the PU campus in Sector 14. The student had suffered injuries on the leg, and was administered anti-rabies vaccine at a dispensary.
Not long before that, a professor was also bitten by a monkey while a peon was attacked.
