Agriculture department fixes insurance premium for rabi crops
COIMBATORE: The agriculture department has announced premium for insurance scheme for rabi crops and the cut-off dates for enrolling in the scheme.
Officials said they would calculate the sum assured for each crop and 1.5% of it would be the premium for the crop. The rabi crops which have been covered in the insurance scheme are: paddy, maize, cumbu, cholam, redgram, blackgram, greengram, horsegram, bengalgram, groundnut, gingelly, cotton and sugarcane.
The highest premium per hectare was for sugarcane at Rs9,571 and the lowest premium was for gingelly at Rs409 per hectare, according to official information. The premium for paddy was Rs1,193 per hectare, for cotton Rs3,186 and groundnut Rs1,019 per hectare.
Officials said they have also fixed cut-off dates for enrolment for the insurance scheme. For paddy, the cut-off date is December 31. While the cut-off date for maize, cumbu, cholam and cotton is December 20, it is October 31, 2020 for sugarcane. For the rest of the crops, the enrolment cut-off date is December 16, they said.
