Panchkula man duped of Rs 31.35 lakh by fake insurance agent
PANCHKULA: A resident of Sector 20, Panchkula, has alleged that he had been duped of Rs 31.35 lakh on the pretext of insurance policies since 2013. On his complaint, a case of fraud has been registered.
Ravindra Kashinath Rote, a resident of GH-38, Sector 20, alleged that in June 2013, he received a call from a person identifying himself as Rakesh Aggarwal, an employee of Reliance Life Insurance Company, Delhi. He offered him an insurance policy, which Rote availed.
Rote said, “The policy taken by me had a premium plan of one year only, however, after I have received the policy documents, I came to know that the premium was to be paid for five years.” The victim said he immediately called Aggarwal and raise the objection, in response to which, Rakesh asked for some time and assured to refund the amount. Rote alleged that in a similar manner, Aggarwal and his accomplices issued him a policy of Future Generali Life Insurance for an amount of Rs 40,000.
Later, he also started receiving calls from persons claiming to be from IRDA, RBI, insurance complaint cell, Union ministry of finance, etc, asking him to deposit money on the pretext of various clearances and taxes. He claimed he deposited Rs 31.35 lakh in total and when he called the numbers back, they were switched off. A case under relevant sections 406 of the IPC has been filed at Sector 20 police station and investigation is underway.
