Zaffino named president of AIG

American International Group Inc. on Wednesday named Peter Zaffino to the additional role of president of the insurer, effective Jan. 1, 2020.

Mr. Zaffino, who joined AIG shortly after CEO Brian Duperreault was brought into turnaround the insurer in 2017, will retain his existing titles of global chief operating officer and CEO of general insurance, an AIG statement said. 

In addition to his day-to-day duties, New York-based Mr. Zaffino heads the AIG 200 project, which is a multi-year review of the insurer’s operations. Mr. Duperreault previously held the title of president of AIG in addition to CEO.

Mr. Zaffino and Mr. Duperreault previously worked together at Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc., which Mr. Duperreault was also called in to turnaround. One of his first executive changes at Marsh && McLennan was to promote Mr. Zaffino to CEO of Guy Carpenter & Co. LLC, its reinsurance brokerage.
