Man held for insurance fraud

HYDERABAD: A 23-year-old man was nabbed by cyber crime police on Monday for cheating people and insurance policy holders on the pretext of providing 10% rebate on their existing premiums. The accused was identified as Vineet Singh, a resident of UP’s Baliya district.

On January 3, a person received a call from Singh, who claimed to be an agent of a private life insurance company, and was told that if she paid her premiums through nationalised banks she would get a 10% discount. Believing the accused, she deposited the money in the bank account given by Singh. But a few days later, she received a message from the insurance company that her premium was pending. When she called the customer care, she realised that she had been cheated and approached the police.
