Students in colleges, varsities covered under insurance: Arun Sahoo

Bhubaneswar: Students of private and government colleges and universities are covered under the student insurance, informed Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo in the State Assembly today.

Replying to a question of Choudwar MLA, Souvic Biswal, the minister said as per letter number-5695 of Higher Education Department dated on February 26, 1993, all students of the colleges are compulsory to cover under the student insurance. Similarly, students of universities are also covered under the insurance.

Sahoo said that in colleges during admission, fee is taken, which is compulsory, from students for the Student Safety Insurance/ Student Insurance Aid.

Similarly, in universities insurance coverage is being provided to the students towards accidental hospitalization, accidental death and death of parents/guardian, he added.
