Digit introduces new coronavirus product

Digit, the online insurance company based in India, has introduced a new insurance product that will cover COVID-19 infections that will be available through its partner programme, according to The Economic Times (ET).

This comes shortly after two new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the country.

The policy, which ET accessed through Digit’s agent portal, allows a person to be insured against COVID-19, and coverage can be as low as INR25,000 ($345) and as high as INR200,000.

The policy will pay out 100% of the sum insured if the policyholder is diagnosed with COVID-19, and 50% of the sum insured if the policyholder is quarantined in a government or military hospital.

However, the policy excludes those who have travelled to countries affected by the coronavirus in the last six weeks, or if diagnosis was based on testing done outside authorised centres in India.
