Extend insurance scheme to all fighting Covid-19: MGP
PANAJI: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) senior leader Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar on Monday demanded that the Central government insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh should be extended to all people who are risking their lives in the battle against Covid-19.
Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had recently announced an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh each for health workers fighting the pandemic.
“The insurance scheme should be extended not only to health workers, but also to numerous others who are working against the disease,” Dhavalikar said
Speaking to TOI, Dhavalikar said the state government has paused development works, shifting its focus to tackle the coronavirus threat. “This is a good step,” he said.
Reacting to chief minister Pramod Sawant’s announcement that cabinet ministers will contribute one-month salary towards the CM Relief Fund, the MGP leader said this should also include other incentives.
“Ministers as well as legislators should donate a portion of their salaries and incentives to the central and state funds,” he said.
