FMCG companies offer special health covers for 'frontline' workers
Leading consumer product companies in India are providing special insurance covers to their 'frontline workers' during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to a news report by news agency Press Trust of India, leading fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies like Nestle India, Godrej Consumer and Dabur, are providing such health insurance covers. This will cover all the ‘frontline’ workforce including distributors, who are involved in the supply chain and distribution of products.
The persons covered under the medical insurance are contract labourers, delivery teams, carrying and forwarding agents, loaders and unloaders and logistic teams including drivers.
During the lockdown, FMCG makers have been witnessing a great disruption in the chain of supply and by this health insurance facility are safeguarding their employees, be they permanent, contracted or third-party.
The companies have committed the cover to all their extended workforce which will provide cover against any fallout from the coronavirus pandemic. The insurance cover provides for cashless in-patient treatment in hospital and all medical expenses if anything happens during the work.
During the current health crisis, several companies in collaboration with many insurance firms have tailored special schemes to keep people involved in their supply chains motivated so as to ensure supply and availability of different products in the market.
Also, the Indian government has made it mandatory for all employers, who resume functioning post COVID-19 lockdown in the country, to provide medical insurance to their employees.
