Six top government posts in insurance to become vacant with Oriental CMD exit

BENGALURU: With Oriental Insurance CMD A V Girijakumar set to retire this Friday, six government posts will become vacant - as Girijakumar was also the chairman of India International Insurance Company, Singapore, GIPSA, GI Council, HITPA ( Health Insurance TPA) and National Insurance Academy.

Girijakumar also at one point was the officiating CMD of National Insurance, officiating CMD of United India, before he took over at Oreintal.

IRDAI members said so far since nationalisation in the 1960s no chief executive in the insurance industry has held all these posts at the same time. With his departure, some of the vancant posts will most likely go to the head of other PSUs like New India Assurance CMD Atul Sahai, National Insurance's Tajinder Mukherjee, United India's Girish Radhakrishnan, GIC Re head Devesh Srivastava or AIC's M Poddar. Or to Oriental's incoming CMD Rajeshwari SN, said sources.

A 1980 batch officer, Girijakumar started his career with New India and completes 40 years in the insurance industry.
