AIA gets Shanghai toehold, licensed like a local

The China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission has approved Hong Kong-based insurer AIA Group Ltd.'s proposal to convert its Shanghai branch into a wholly-owned subsidiary, South China Morning Post reports.

This will allow AIA to operate and expand in China like a local insurer.
