Corona Increased the Difficulties of Health Insurance Companies
The number of corona infections in the country is constantly increasing and along with this the difficulties of health insurance companies are also increasing. In less than a month, the claim amount with these companies increased more than three times to Rs 562 crore.
Among them, Maharashtra and Delhi are the most affected by Corona. According to General Insurance Council data, on July 3, the number of claims also increased more than three times to 35 thousand. On 8 June this number was 11 thousand.
The highest claims have been made in Maharashtra
According to the figures, policyholders had until June 8 claimed Rs 178 crore towards treatment. As of 3 July, around 23000 claims worth Rs 184 crore had been settled.
The highest claims have been made in Maharashtra. 15 753 claims worth Rs 195 crore were made in the state. Delhi is at number two. 5909 claims have been made in the capital with a total amount of Rs. 134 crores. Apart from this, a large number of claims have also been made in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana and West Bengal.
Why you are getting fewer payouts
The average claim amount increased to Rs 1.64 lakh in July from Rs 1.56 lakh in June. During this time the average settlement fell from Rs 90118 to Rs 80427.
This proves that even after the cost of treatment of Covid-19, the policyholders are getting less payout. This is because different hospitals are charging different amounts for the treatment of corona. Most health policies have room rent fixes and do not include the cost of PPE and gloves worn by hospital staff. Hospitals have added this to their bills.
Corona Cases in India
Industry officials told ET that if the corona case continues to grow in the same way, the claims could amount to thousands of crores of rupees. This is the case when only 4 per cent of the population in the country has a medical cover.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, the number of corona infections in the country has reached 767296. Of these, 476378 people have recovered from the epidemic, while 21129 people have died.
