Ronak Shah has been with QBE since June 2017 and is currently the Chief Executive Officer for their Singapore Business. Prior to taking on this role in September of 2019, he used to head their Financial, Professional and Casualty Lines Business across Emerging Markets being Asia Pacific and Latin America. He is based in Singapore and has more than 20 years of insurance experience, having previously worked for three international insurance broking houses and a major Insurance Company as an underwriter in the United States and Singapore. He has underwriting and broking experience across all classes of Financial, Professional and Liability Lines as well as Transactional Liability solutions which would include Cyber Security Insurance, Medical Malpractice, Clinical Trials, Directors & Officers Liability, Professional Indemnity, Commercial Crime, Prospectus Liability, Multimedia Liability, Products Liability, Environmental Liability, CGL, Reps and Warranties and Tax Liability to name a few.
He is an active contributor of insurance related articles to various trade magazines, is a regular speaker at seminars and has conducted courses for various organizations across the region. He is also the current Chairman of PLUS in Singapore. Ronak Shah has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Rochester, USA.

How you started your career?
Right after University in New York.
What were your stepping stones in career?
Returning from the US to Singapore in 2005 and with me taking on a wider remit with Willis in 2006. Also moving onto take an APAC Lloyds role with Allied World in 2010 and then moving to QBE in 2017. These were all instances in my career which were stepping stones for me.
Who influenced you the most in your career and why?
My uncle who kept pushing me hard in being independent, aiming for the top and persevering in everything I did in life. My father passed away when I was young and my uncle took on that role for me ever since.

When you wanted to quit?
Never crossed my mind.
Why you choose Insurance?
Was fortunate enough to be given my first role in the Financial, Professional and Liability Lines as well as Mergers & Acquisitions and this entailed an exposure across all industries which kept me motivated. My desire to learn how different businesses run and how risk can be mitigated made me choose this field.
