Pakistan:Govt looking at crop insurance plan
The government has been working on a crop insurance plan targeted at farmers, National Food Security & Research Minister Syed Fakhar Imam has revealed.
He said the food ministry in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority would make all-out efforts to save crops from rains and floods.
“There is no immediate threat of food shortage in the country despite the ongoing locust attacks and prediction of above-normal monsoon rains,” he said during an interview with VOA, according to a report in Pakistan Today. “The government is making a strategy for the next year in view of the decline in agricultural production.”
The minister said that the Met Office has predicted 10% extra rains during this monsoon season which might affect crops.
