Bangladesh:Rural sector benefits from free COVID-19 cover
The free COVID-19 insurance cover offered by Digital Health Solutions in June for 100,000 individuals on a first-come-first-served basis saw many registrations from rural Bangladesh.
With close to 235,000 COVID-19 cases and over 3,000 deaths, the country has been facing huge challenges in tackling the pandemic. Digital Health Solutions’ ‘Corona Insurance’ was sponsored by the Grameen Telecom Trust and was offered free of cost.
The scheme provides a cash amount of $24 for the insured if tested positive for the virus and needing home isolation, $59 for hospitalisation cases and a life cover of $236.
Apart from the monetary benefits the insurance scheme also provides services like doctor chat, doctor video call and corona symptom checker.
Since inception, patients from rural areas such as Jessore, Pabna, Keraniganj, Shibchar, Natore and Sirajganj have benefited from it and a number of claims under the scheme have already been paid.
