Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu: PMK leader Ramadoss demands Rs 1crore insurance cover for every frontline worker

CHENNAI: A day after the Tamil Nadu government reduced the solatium amount for the kin of the deceased Covid-19 frontline workers, PMK leader S Ramadoss on Friday demanded that the state provide life insurance cover to the tune of Rs 1 crore for every worker.

He said it was sad that the government reduced the solatium and urged the government to issue the money as announced earlier.

The government passed an order, reducing the solatium from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. It was contradictory to chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s announcement on April 22.

On April 22, the government enhanced the solatium amount from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh for the frontline workers and government employees, who succumbed to the virus while on duty. The chief minister also stated that a family member of the deceased would be given a government job based on qualification.
