Nepal:Govt vets candidates for Insurance Board chairman's post

The government is seeking to appoint a new chairperson for the Beema Samiti, the country's insurance regulator.

The most recent chairman, Mr Chiranjibi Chapagain, completed his four-year term on 13 January, reported the news website OnlineKhabar. In general, the chairperson would be appointed one month before the end of the incumbent’s term.

At present, the government has a slate of several candidates to vet. The candidates include Chinta Mani Siwakoti who is Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) deputy governor; Rabindra Ghimire and Ramesh Kumar Bhattarai, who were shortlisted for the position when Mr Chapagain was appointed; NRB official Ram Sharan Kharel, also a brother-in-law of former finance minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada; former Nepal Stock Exchange chairperson Tanka Paneru; former NRB executive director Laxmi Prapanna Niraula, chartered accountants Krishna Prasad Acharya and Mahesh Guragain.
