Singapore extends health cover to include vaccination side effects
The Life Insurance Association, Singapore (LIA Singapore) today announced that all seven Integrated Shield Plan (IP) insurers are extending coverage to COVID-19 vaccination complications that result in hospitalisation.
The seven IP insurers are: AIA, Aviva, AXA, Great Eastern, NTUC Income, Prudential, and Raffles Health Insurance. Earlier this month, several insurers on the list already announced that they would provide cover for COVID-19 vaccination complications for their customers.
According to LIA Singapore, the extended coverage will apply to all IP policyholders who receive COVID-19 vaccines approved by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) and are vaccinated in Singapore. The coverage will initially be until December 31. The association will monitor the evolving situation and take it into account when announcing any further extensions to the duration of coverage.
“The life insurance industry is in full support of the government’s efforts to encourage as many Singaporeans as possible to take the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Khor Hock Seng, LIA Singapore president. “This proactive commitment from our members will give Singaporeans peace of mind that any adverse effects from the vaccine resulting in hospitalisation will be covered.”
