South Korea:Drunk, unlicensed, & hit-and-run drivers to bear insurance payouts

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced last month that all insurance payouts will be charged to motorists who cause accidents when they drive while they are under the influence, or when they don't have a driving licence or who are involved in hit-and-run accidents.

Previously, such perpetrators were charged with a partial amount of the insurance payout as a warning against future accidents, reported Korea Bizwire.

This policy, however, was deemed as an ineffective deterrent by many since perpetrators paid only a small amount.
